Top-10-Mistakes-To-Avoid-In-An-Interview (1)

Interviews are scenarios where scope of mistakes is never tolerated. It is a situation of making a first impression, but if that itself is not right, you can never land further than the interview itself. But, people still tend to make a lot of mistakes in their interviews which can be avoided quite easily. So, here are the top 10 mistakes that you should avoid while going for an interview.

1. Late Comers

Later comers are never tolerated in an interview. Especially, those who do not inform about how and why they may get late. While there are flexible exceptions in case of an emergency or extreme traffic conditions which interviewers consider, try your best to avoid any of them at all.

2. Too Early

Just the opposite of this is the negative trait of coming too early. Simply imagine that you call a person to talk about the white wash at your house. Now, you would tell him to come at a particular time, because you would not want to entertain him before or after the discussion. But, if he comes almost an hour early and sits around, imagine the discomfort as well as the unwelcoming vibe you will get for them. That is exactly what an interviewer feels if you come too early, so don’t.

3. Unprofessional Appearance

You may think that the beard is in style and trend. But, it is only trendy when maintained, especially in the corporate world. Take for instance well-dressed person with a wild beard. The look will not appeal to your interviewer as organized. Being organized is an important trait any employer looks for and your appearance is the best presentation of it.

4. Missing Resume

Two of the major things that the new generation follows strictly is the digital form of resume and belief that the resume does not play much importance. Both are incorrect. Even as we move digitally, if you are going for a face to face interview, it is a must to present your physical form of resume across.

5. Outdated Resume

Another one of the mistakes is not updating your resume regularly. Even if you left your job and have not been doing anything for a few months, add something as to what you were doing. There can be references of your freelance projects in between or any extra-curricular activity you took part in. But, make sure that your resume is the presentation of who you are exactly at the day of your interview.

6. Lack Of Preparation

Preparation involves knowing the job role, reading about it and gathering as much information as possible about the company you are trying to land in. If your interviewer asks what you know about the company you want to get in, and you do not have an answer to it, it shows a display of detachment. Any employer will avoid a person who is not concerned about a company he comes in for. Another aspect is the preparation of the job description. At least know what to talk about in terms of your job description, so that the employer can continue a productive conversation.

7. Low Energy

This one trait is a clear indicator of rejection in any interview. You can never display low energy. If you do have low energy on a particular day, talk to the interviewer and get it shifted to the next or whichever suitable day it is. But, going with low energy is a big NO NO!!!

8. Negativity

During your interview, people may have a different opinion to what you perceive. But, not showing acceptance to their opinion is one of the negative traits you display. Take criticism to the mind but not to the heart. Let the person give feedback on your profile and take it constructively. All of these may seem that the person may not hire you, but this is actually a turning point because of your display of positive attitude which is one of the signs of a great employee.

9. It’s Not About You

The interview is being conducted because there is a need for a particular job to do and they find you to be a potentially fit candidate. But, if you keep your focus on what you are rather than telling them what you can do for the company, you will pretty fast lose interest in the eyes of the interviewer. It may not work negatively, but it will make the interviewer ignore your important points amidst avoiding the unimportant ones.

10. Not Asking Questions

Asking questions is a great feature of an employee. It shows interest, curiosity and extroverted behavior in the most positive sense. But make sure that the questions you ask are relevant to the organization, the job role and the expectations. Also, one should ask about the things that you may experience in the company. Or even the type of clients the company has. These will never become too much too soon.
